Dr. Petryk’s Thoughts: Obesity causes an increase in systemic inflammation (through out the body) and this increase in inflammation has a deleterious effect on numerous systems.

One example: your Cholesterol doesn’t go up as a result of Obesity as can be demonstrated by numerous patients who are at a “healthy weight” and still have elevated cholesterol levels however; obesity does cause an increase in inflammation which would be demonstrated by an elevated cholesterol level.

Weight loss is critical in helping to reduce inflammation and therefore lower things like cholesterol however; there is a right way to do it.

Diets don’t work, nor do any other pill or potion. Exercise is very inefficient as a means to lose weight however; it is critical in maintaining a healthy weight. There is no simple fix but it is a simple formula: fewer calories in and an increase in calories being used results in weight loss. It is a lifestyle change that includes Health Habits and it is much easier than you think.

2 Questions:

Can you lose 3-5 lbs. per week?

Are you teachable?

The rest is easy.. let us know. DrPetryk.tsfl.com

Fever Increases Immune System Defense, Study Shows

Dr. Petryk’s Thoughts: Most physicians will agree that fevers are the way your body defends itself whether the admit it openly or not.

Fevers are a natural response to a threat. When your system perceives a bacteria or virus, the natural defense results in an increased temperature in order to “burn up” the organism. Suppression of the fever simply reduces the inherent ability of your body to defend itself and potentially increase the life and ferocity of the organism.

There is scientific evidence that demonstrates that the more you “treat” fevers and the more you vaccinate, the less effective the immunogenic response is. Lets use a perfect example: if the germ theory was all that it is “portrayed” to be, then there wouldn’t be a doctor or nurse alive to tell you. Look at the care giving staffs in hospitals, they are amongst the healthiest (as was the case when I worked in the hospital).

Your body is much like a finely tuned race car. The more it is “tuned up” / challenged, the more effective in its response it becomes.

How to decide when a fever is too much?

One must apply some common sense to the situation. A fever will normally fluctuate (rise and fall) in 30 minute increments so this is something to watch for… this doesn’t mean that it will go up and down between “normal” and “elevated” however, you will see it cycle.

First thing you must understand. 98.6 degrees F is not a “normal” temperature, it is an average temperature… everyone is different and that is why the range of normal is from 97.6 F through 99.9 F (there is some variation according to the reference source).

I, as a physician, do not panic if I see a fever (by definition: greater than 100 degrees F) and will keep an eye on 2 primary things; watching to see that the temperature does fluctuate and the personality of the person who is having the fever (watching their attitudes, demeanor, and normal behavior). I find these two things are essential understand what the “number/degrees” represent. I am confident in allowing my family and most of my patients to go pretty high but the moment I see something that is not right, then we take the appropriate measures.

In most cases, you allow the person to rest, drink plenty of fluids, cool them off with compresses or put them in a tempered tub of water and let the fever take its course.

**this article is not meant to diagnosis and/or treat any disease or dysfunction. You are advised to contact your physician for additional information.**

Source: the Lee Memorial Health System Healthy News Letter (January 2012)

Marie Straitz will tell you that she struggled with weight most of her life. She did not eat a healthy diet, never made time for exercise, worked stressful jobs, and knew that
heart disease ran in her family. She also will tell you that cardiac events changed her
life forever……
……The cardiac rehabilitation provided the education and guidance Marie needed
to manage stress, make exercise a priority and adjust her diet. She also began a
nutrition program that includes a health coach to keep her on track.
“These cardiac events made me sit up and pay attention,” Marie says. “I received
great care and motivation to make the changes I needed to save my life. The staff at
cardiac rehabilitation was amazing—they were compassionate and kind, and it was
clear that working in cardiac rehab is much more than a job for each of them. Now,
with me doing my part—with exercise, diet and stress management—I have lost
more than 70 pounds.”
Marie, now 59 years old, has even taken a new career path—she is a health coach.

Dr. Petryk’s Thoughts: Does anyone know how she did it? She learned the Habits of Health and joined the Take Shape for Life Program… and now she is not only living a new, healthier lifestyle, but she decided to become a Health Coach herself.

Considering a program… consider Take Shape for Life… no diets, no gimmicks… coaching from a Certified Health Coach or Health Provider is at your finger tips… DrPertryk.tsfl.com

During 806,182 person-years of follow-up (median, 1.3 years per person), 1357 cases of myocardial infarction, 296 cases of sudden cardiac death, and 575 cases of stroke were recorded.

The researchers say the multivariable-adjusted rate ratio (RR) of serious cardiovascular events for current use vs nonuse of ADHD medication was 0.83 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.72 – 0.96).

Dr. Petryk’s Thought’s:

Most people don’t understand the effects of many of these medications on the Cortex and in turn, the Pontomedullary Reticular Activating System. This system has a direct affect on the Autonomic Nervous System (Pulse, Heart rate, Perfusion…).

Should you have erroneous information driving this system, it is only a question of time with regard as how it will respond, or fail to respond.

There are several evaluations and treatments for most Childhood Developmental Disorders which are quite successful and do not requirepharmacological intervention however; you must first find a Functional Neurologist.

I also recommend reading “Disconnected Kids” by Dr. Robert Melillo and feel free to contact me for more information or assistance in finding someone near you.

Dr. Petryk’s Thoughts:

What I find so very sad is that the medical model claims to be so scientific (reproducible) and yet it only takes 30% reproducibility to qualify a drug.

1 in 3 people have to have the same reaction and it is considered scientific???

What is even worse are the side effects. Have you noticed that the side effects are listed in order of frequency…. there are side effects that don’t “make the list” simply because not enough people suffered from them.

This is also why you normally find the “symptom” you’re being treated for in the top three of the side effects..

Look at the typical Anti-Hypertensive (blood pressure) medication. The first 3 side effects usually include: High Blood Pressure, Low Blood Pressure and Heart Attack…

There is a time and a place for all things but it is time that “We the People” take responsibility for ourselves and become pro-active with regard to health.

Health Care is the Answer….. not Disease Care

Take Shape for Life

Dr. Petryk’s Thoughts:

Yes, you read it correctly and yet your doctors are constantly telling you to lose weight. So what do you do?

1. You must be honest and understand that there is no “pill” that treats obesity because obesity is not a “disease” even though there are though who want you to think so. Obesity is a lifestyle problem! Yes, a lifestyle problem. Like it or not, no one sat across from you at dinner time and held a gun to your head forcing you to prepare the foods you prepared or eat the quantity that you did. Once you understand that this is a behavior/lifestyle problem, then you can make decisions as to what to do and how to do it.

2. You must also understand that today’s foods are energy rich and nutritionally poor so it is very easy to consume more calories that you burn. This is a very simple problem: calories in = calories out. If you consume more calories than you use, you will gain weight.

3. Myths:

Diets help you loose weight:

False: diets are just that, diets… fads, temporary…. Don’t you know someone who was in a diet and as soon as they lost the weight and returned to their habits, they gained it all back. The only way to successfully lose weight and keep it off is to change your habits and no that doesn’t mean you can’t ever have pizza again (or what ever your food might be), it simply means that you will be more aware of what you are doing and take the necessary actions to maintain your healthy weight).

This shot (or pill) will do it by itself:

False: pills and potions don’t do anything except temporarily alter your chemistry. A friend of mine has said it best, “You can’t poison a crucial enzyme for the long term and expect good results.” (M. Brownstein M.D. author of “Drugs that Don’t Work and Natural Therapies That Do.)” This isn’t rocket science folks, this is why there are so many disclaimers on the ads…. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and it’s going to kill ya’ (death).

I will just work out until I get to where I want to be.

False: lets be honest, the vast majority of you have tried this and it didn’t work. Exercise is very important for over all health as it is in maintaining your ideal weight however; it is grossly ineffective at helping you lose weight.

4. What Can I Do?

Two simple questions:

1. Can you eat every 2-3 hours?

2. Are you coachable and teachable

If your answer is yes, then I am sure that we can help. Drop us a note or call us and we will help you achieve your weight loss goals. It is much easier than you think and yes, this physician has been trained in nutrition and weight loss.
